Interpretive trails.  Visitor center.

Although a bit farther than 100 miles from Raton, it's perfectly reasonable to plan a day trip to the Pecos National Historic Park located between Las Vegas and Santa Fe.  The park features a pueblo of the Pecos Indians dating from 1400s, the ruins of a Spanish Mission, a Civil War interpretive trail, a historic ranch, the Pecos River, and special programs and historic reenactments.

There is no entry fee for the Pecos National Historic Park.

Hiking Opportunities:  Interpretive trails wind through the ruins of the Indian pueblo and Spanish mission ruins.  A new addition to the park is just down the road to the west, and offers an interpretive trail covering the Civil War Battle of Glorieta Pass.
